(Warning, while this summery is worksafe and hopefully brainsafe, Chronicles of Darkness is a super dark game, so some triggering events have been glossed over)

Edith Gale is one of Prince Augustus Banks' Sheriffs.

An unusual sheriff for an unusual prince but that's getting ahead of ourselves...

Edith's "Embrace"
Edith was a painfully shy girl who became an easy target for a desperate Ghoul. She came out of the shower to find an older, intimidatingly striking woman lounging on their couch while her roommate, Frank, fawned over her like a junkie desperate for a fix. Which as a Ghoul was exactly what he was. Frank had sold Edith out to his regent Cassandra Harrison for her blood, which would stop his aging. Edith wanted to run, but Cassandra mesmerised her and forced the girl to go with her.

Cassandra Harrison was the second in command of the Ordo Dracul, and Edith was to be a part of an experiment to allow Cassandra to walk in the sun. Edith did not know this, all she knew was that when Cassandra told her to follow, her body listened even as Edith tried with all her might to resist the order. She was made to stand in a circle of runes... and the Cassandra bit her, drained her of all her blood and even her soul. And Edith would damn herself before admitting it, but it felt good.

And yet, Edith didn't die, everything went dark, she even saw the light, but then a wave of anger washed over her and dragged her away from it.

There's been a murder...
When Edith regained her senses and opened her eyes she was being carried by two young men she didn't recognise, she struggled to break free and the one holding her upper body dropped her, the younger, who had held her legs holding them higher so she couldn't move. The boy called her Cassandra and when she denied it called her a Kook, a term reserved for a crazy vampire. The two bickered for a few seconds before Edith was let go and the younger man pulled out a sword, pointing at her in a warning not to move. The three of them spoke, Edith told her who she really was, and she learned the two men were called Izzy and Damian, a Vampire and Ghoul. She also realised, looking down at herself that she was indeed, somehow, in Cassandra's body and not knowing what else Edith agreed to go with them to meet another person, Augustus Banks.

When Edith explained her situation to Banks he believed her immediately, she would not know this until weeks later, but her condition was partially Banks fault. Edith's first instinct to having her new condition explained to her was to run away from anyone who knew Cassandra and try to carry on in this new body. She felt like she had no other choice, believing that her original body had been destroyed. However, Izzy's sire, Victoria, the leader of the Carthian movement had just been murdered and Cassandra was a suspect. If Edith ran, there would be a blood hunt sent after her. Izzy tried to help her by getting more info on Cassandra to help with the act, Izzy got her the information, and a new ghoul Charlie Bucket, but at a cost that he would not reveal to Edith.

And so the first few weeks of Edith's new unlife were a nightmarish mess of pretending to be an elder vampire, aiding in the investigation of Victoria's murder, discovering the murder of Cassandra's own sire, and running into both the Murderer himself and a strix.

While this was happening she found out that her original body was still alive... after a fashion, Banks had managed to salvage the corpse and feed it Ventrue blood. Izzy meanwhile had discovered his friend, Mike, could place her soul back where it should be. Edith held back on asking Mike for help, however, feeling that Cassandra wouldn't care about the investigation, or worse would attack her Izzy and Damian.

Losing and gaining allies
Damian called in a hunter called Fern to help take care of the strix, Edith was confused as to why a Hunter would be willing to help vampires but was glad for any help she could get. Unfortunately, they were quickly distracted by a problem with one of the Ordo's members. Cleaning up the out of control experiment involved a lot of fire and magic, thanks to Mike, however, this would have consequences.

Mike had a lot of power, but he also had powerful enemies who quickly started to hunt him down. They attacked Edith and Izzy and would have killed them if Mike hadn't stepped in, however he knew it was no longer safe and "borrowed" Edith's car to get out of town.

TOO MUCH STUFF
Edith, Izzy, Damian, and Fern, continued to try and work on getting rid of the strix but other things kept getting in the way:
  • Edith learned that Banks had interfered with Cassandra's experiment but Cassandra managed to take control of her own body back for a short time thanks to the pure rage the discovery caused.

  • "Cassandra" had to defend her position as the new leader of the Ordo

  • Izzy had to take part in the Carthian election

  • Another hunter, Gabriel needed Fern's help, along with a young girl called Rose

  • A lead on the murder case led to the discovery of a house full of Ghouls loyal to the murderer and a wealth of information on his future goals.

  • The Gangrel pack was taken over by the murderer, and The Circle of the Crone was all but wiped out by them.

  • And finally, Izzy's old home was attacked by an Enemy Fern had made and everyone moved to Gabriel's place for a while.

Mission to save the Big Gun
(Warning for non-con that even I couldn't gloss over)
Unfortunately, Damian had decided to go and collect Izzy's things from his newer (but still not secure) home, only to be attacked and kidnapped. It took the calling in of several favors, all their skill and the help of Izzy's grand-sire to save him from the brothel that was trying to break the ghoul before selling him on. They had almost succeeded in buying him back without any fight at all, but Edith flubbed her invisibility leading to a fight until Izzy's grand-sire was able to de-escalate the situation and force the brothel owner to hand Damian back.

Augusust Banks was furious that the leader of the Carthians had refused to help, and after seeing what went on inside the brothel herself Edith agreed to help destroy it and drive the owner out of town. Bank's methods were... extreme, and there would be a loss of life, but Edith followed through for the many other people who would be saved. She would always question her actions that night, however, even if everyone around her told her she was doing the right thing.

Unbeknown to her, Banks and Fern also plotted to have the owner killed outside the city in order to protect the two fledglings from any possible revenge. The owner escaped, however, and her current whereabouts are unknown.

Calling for help
Edith had done what she felt was right to protect the current and future victims of the Brothel, but it had hurt her deeply to do so. If this was what it took to survive in this new world she didn't know if she could do it. But it wasn't just her life on the line. Augustus Banks wanted to take charge of the city's vampires to better protect everyone, and they still needed to take down the murderer, an insane millennia year old vampire calling himself Caesar. How were a pair of fledglings, their friends and a near outcast like Banks meant to do that? Edith didn't know, but she did think that if they had Cassandra, the real Cassandra on their side it would help.

Fern helped Edith reach inside herself to make contact with the elder vampire inside her and despite being terrified made her agree to help Banks in exchange power in his new court and her body back that same night. The deal was struck, however, it meant they had to call Mike back to the city. The mage said it worked out well for him, since it meant the people chasing him would find his trail cold and no know to come back to the city looking for him.

One down, one to go...
Edith did not get any chance to enjoy being back in her body, however. Susanna, the former leader Gangrel discovered that Caesar was going to attack the Lancea et Sanctum, the Carthians, the former leader of the Gangrel were going to attempt a rescue along with Edith and her friends however Fern received a call, from Rose... only it wasn't Rose, they had never know Rose. The strix had killed her and taken her over before they had ever met. She had kidnapped Mike, Damian, and Gabriel and was daring them to come for them.
Izzy and Edith fought hard, and Charlie cleverly freed the hostages but it was Fern and Mike who were finally able to kill the strix at last.

Still, the young vampires and their friends would have no chance to rest, there was one last battle left, Caesar himself.

The New Ides of March
Caesar knew the remaining vampires in the city had called an Elysium, and the vampires knew Caesar planned to attack it. Augustus Banks called Izzy and the remaining vampires of influence to discuss what to do. Edith was afraid to speak up, she was no one to these elder vampires, but as she listened to the elders arguing, Izzy's grand-sire wanting to attempt negotiation, Banks wanting to move the meeting to a more defensible spot and everyone shaming the Invictus spokesman for their coven fleeing that Edith had to speak up, suggesting the Invictus offer up a place, they weren't going to use it after all. Thankfully, and surprisingly she was listened too and Banks was able to call in his clan, the Brothers of Ypres.

They didn't have much time to prepare but Banks' clan worked fast and despite the smaller numbers the Carthians, the Ordo, and, to everyone's surprise, a number of Invictus to decided to stay and fight, and Caesar's army was trapped between them and the hunters Fern had called in. Caesar himself tried to escape, turning to mist and using the ventilation, but Fern and Mike had planned for that. The ventilation had been warned and Caesar was sucked down to the basement where Mike trapped him, Edith chose to watch over Damian who had tried and failed to bring down Caesar himself while Izzy went down to the basement and avenged his Sire by putting the monster down.

Banks grabbed a handful of Caesar's ashes and showed them to the remaining fighters, calling for their unity and declaring himself Prince of a newborn Camarilla Cassandra backed him as did her Ordo, as did the Carthians. Izzy and Edith were declared Sheriffs. Edith had known Banks had been planning to do this since the night she had agreed to help him destroy the brothel, but she was so exhausted from the fighting it was hard to believe she was really standing on a stage with everyone looking at her.

Izzy had been wounded quiet baldly as well as Damian and so Banks gave them leave to return to Izzy's home it was finally time to rest...Only it wasn't.

Mike
The Queen of Magic was waiting for them. They fought with all the strength they had left, Edith had promised to look protect Mike even though she never thought she would have to defend someone so much stronger than her. But she had promised and the meek little girl was the one to throw the first punch, but it was fruitless. What could vampires, ghouls, and humans do against a woman who could conjure a miniature sun? They would have all died if it had not been for Gabriel sacrificing his eyesight to summon a shield and an angel.

But even that was not enough to save Mike, as he was dragged away by the woman he called mother while Edith could do nothing but watch.

Edith had been a girl who hadn't known how to connect with people before she died, it was only as a vampire in a desperate situation that she had been able to open herself up to those around her. And now one of her first ever friends had been taken from her.

And even if one of those very kidnappers tried to convince them that Mike would not be harmed, that there was still a chance to regroup and mount a rescue later Edith didn't believe a word the literal daemon said.

Seeking the Info Broker
When the morning woke the next evening, it came with the news that the Queen of Magic had fled by helicopter before Bank's men could stop them. And that they had no luck finding the Info Broker, the one who had told the Queen that Mike was back in New York.

Damian, however, had better luck, and, without even taking time to change out of the clothes from the night before, Edith, Izzy and Fern moved to find the bastard. The info Broker had a gang of ghoul children, they were all far far older than they looked, but most of the group couldn't see past their appearance, and even those who could did not want to fight them to get at the Info Broker. Thankfully Damian was able to intimidate them enough that they let the group pass.

Edith was still mostly numb from the night before, but she wanted to kill the Info Broker, and was frustrated when it took time to find him even after getting past the Ghouls. Fern watched the door to make sure no one left while Izzy Damian, Charlie, and Edith, the latter two activating Obfuscate as they started searching. Izzy found a staked and bound vampire, and neither Izzy, or Edith, (who had used obfuscate and couldn't voice her opinion even if she wanted too for fear of breaking her invisibility,) could make sense of the vampire's presence but it distracted them long enough that they didn't notice how quiet Damian had been while checking the other room.

That was because the Info Broker had trapped Damian in a nightmare and the moment the others tried to check on him, he grabbed Damian and held him hostage. Edith waited for a chance to attack the info broker and free Damian while Izzy tried to negotiate a deal. Suddenly Charlie's voice could be heard, he had seen the vampire and was now pointing at the Info Broker. "Jim Hawkings!" He said. "I didn't recognise you because you grew up but your not the Master at all!"

The Info Broker's tale
"Jim" spilled the beans then, he knew the longer he kept talking the less likely hood someone would attack him, and while he didn't know where Edith was, he was sure there was at least one other person in the room he couldn't see.

"Jim" was originally called Gregory and he had been the real info broker's favorite Ghoul, until he had been discarded and started aging again due to a lack of his master's blood. However, a desperate ghoul can be just as much of a monster as a vampire can be. Gregory convinced himself he could get back into the real Info Broker's good graces if he could just prove he was better at making sure his master was safe.
And so, using the very skills the original info broker taught him, Gregory shadowed his way into the Info broker's lair and staked him, paralysing him, and trapping him until Izzy had found him. He then proceeded to steal blood for the info broker to consume, while taking the vampire's blood to feed himself and the other Ghouls, (including Charlie until Gregory had him thrown out.) all the while convinced that the info broker was happy with this. This was how Gregory had taken over the info broker's identity. And he pointed out to Izzy and everyone else in the room that they couldn't kill him, because he was the only one who could find Mike for them.

Izzy countered that they could only trust him to find Mike if he willingly entered a blood bond with one of them. At which point he called out Edith's name. She ignored him, still so angry that she was stubbornly still waiting for an opening to attack him. Izzy was insistent however and eventually, she gave in, taking the bond on herself since Izzy was already bound to Damian and Charlie.

It still felt like a bitter defeat as the group walked out, however, until Izzy did something Edith did not understand. He told the ghoul children the truth about their master. The children went upstairs to confront Gregory, who then started to attack them. Izzy and Fern quickly stepped in to stop the bloodshed and Damian backed them up... Edith however, afraid that they would lose their chance to get Mike back when to the still bound original info broker. Her plan was to pull the stake, remake the deal and then break the chains holding him so he could regain control of the situation. However, the second Edith pulled the stake free the Info Broker freed himself. And killed Gregory in revenge for what he did.

The New Camarilla
Not knowing what else to do, Edith fed Gregory's corpse more blood in an attempt to sire him. The Info Broker allowed this, and return for freeing him, he agreed to hold up the deal, even if it meant working with Edith's new childe... but he wanted Gregory out of his sight for now. Edith feared that Banks would be furious with her for what she had done, they had acted without informing him what they were doing and had sired a new vampire

Banks, however, was pleased, and spread the story as an example of how he and his sheriffs would bring troublemakers to heal for their transgressions. Gregory was sent to search for Mike, in exchange for his life and a regular dose of Edith's blood.

And while they waited Banks New Camarilla flourished.
